Privacy policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Rookie Room ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit rookieroom.store (the "Site"), place an order, or contact us. Our store runs on Shopify. By using the Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details: name, email address and phone number.
- Order details: billing and shipping address, items purchased, order history.
- Personalisation details: the name, number, sport and size you choose for your light. This is usually a child's first name and a jersey number, provided by the adult placing the order.
- Communications: messages you send us by email or contact form, and any photos you send with a claim.
- Marketing preferences: whether you've subscribed to our emails.
Payment information
Payments are processed by our payment providers (such as Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal and Google Pay). We don't see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect:
- device and browser information, IP address, approximate location, and language settings;
- pages viewed, products viewed, items added to cart, checkout activity, and how you arrived at the Site (for example, from an ad);
- how you interact with pages, including clicks, taps, scrolling and mouse movement, collected through session-recording and heatmap tools (see section 4).
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- make, ship and deliver your order, including passing your personalisation to our production partner;
- process payments and prevent fraud;
- send order confirmations, shipping updates and customer service replies;
- remind you about an unfinished checkout;
- send marketing emails, only if you've subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- understand how people use the Site and improve its design and performance;
- measure and improve our advertising;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We only use personalisation details (such as a child's name and number) to make your order and handle any claim about it. We don't use them for marketing.
3. How we share your information
We don't sell your personal information for money. We share it only with:
- Shopify, which hosts our store and processes orders (Shopify Privacy Policy);
- Payment providers, to process your payment and prevent fraud;
- Our production and fulfilment partner, which makes and ships your light and receives your name, shipping address, phone number and personalisation details. Our partner may be located outside the United States, including in China;
- Shipping carriers, to deliver your order;
- Analytics and advertising partners (see section 4);
- Professional advisers and authorities, where needed to comply with the law, respond to legal requests, or protect our rights; and
- A buyer or successor, if our business is sold or reorganised.
4. Cookies, analytics and advertising
We and our partners use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to run the Site, remember your cart, understand how the Site is used, and show relevant ads. These include:
- Shopify cookies, needed for the cart, checkout and security;
- Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors interact with pages (clicks, taps, scrolling) to help us find and fix problems. Text you type into form fields is masked. Microsoft processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement;
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel, to measure and improve our Facebook and Instagram ads (Meta Privacy Policy);
- TikTok Pixel, to measure and improve our TikTok ads (TikTok Privacy Policy).
You can manage non-essential cookies through the cookie banner and the "Your privacy choices" link on our Site, and through your browser settings. We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as an opt-out of targeted advertising and "sharing" where required by law.
Under some US state laws, using advertising pixels may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, or as "targeted advertising". You can opt out at any time using the "Your privacy choices" link or by emailing contact@rookieroom.store.
5. Children's privacy
Our Site and products are aimed at parents, family members and other adults buying for children. The Site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Orders must be placed by an adult.
When an adult gives us a child's first name and jersey number to personalise a product, we use it only to make the product and handle any claim about that order. If you believe a child has given us personal information directly, please contact us and we'll delete it.
6. How long we keep information
We keep order and personalisation details for as long as needed to fulfil your order, handle claims and returns, and meet tax, accounting and legal requirements (generally up to 7 years for order records). Session-recording and analytics data is kept for the periods set by those providers. We delete or anonymise information we no longer need.
7. Your rights
All customers can ask us to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that's wrong;
- delete your information (subject to records we must keep by law); and
- stop sending you marketing emails (use the unsubscribe link in any email).
US state privacy rights. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with privacy laws), you may also have the right to know what we collect and share, to get a copy in a portable format, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, targeted advertising, and profiling. We won't discriminate against you for using these rights. You can use an authorised agent to make a request for you; we may ask for proof of their authority.
New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. As a New Zealand business, we also handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 2020. You can ask to access or correct your information. If you're not happy with how we've handled a privacy concern, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
How to make a request. Email contact@rookieroom.store with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We'll verify your identity (usually by matching your email and order details) and respond within the time required by law, generally within 30 to 45 days. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we'll review it.
8. International transfers
We're based in New Zealand, our store is hosted by Shopify, and our production partner and some service providers are located in other countries, including the United States and China. Your information may be transferred to and processed in these countries, which may have different privacy laws from where you live. We take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected when it's transferred.
9. Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including Shopify's secure, encrypted checkout. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
10. Third-party links
The Site may link to other websites and social media pages. Their privacy practices are their own, and we're not responsible for them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know by email or a notice on the Site.
